Partners

CVET works with a variety of partners, including state agencies, non-governmental organizations, veterinary medical associations, and many others. Although this list is not exhaustive of the many partners that CVET works with, listed below are a few of our key partnerships.

California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES)

Cal OES oversees the management of emergency preparedness and disaster response for the State of California. CVET and Cal OES work together to develop preparedness resources for local jurisdictions and to manage the allocation of resources during disaster response operations.

California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA)

The CDFA ensures the safety and security of agriculture products and food supply and oversees the California Animal Response Emergency System (CARES) program. CVET and CDFA work closely together to increase animal preparedness efforts in the state and oversees the operations of Emergency Support Function 11 during disaster response operations.

California Animal Response Emergency System (CARES)

The CARES Unit provides organizational guidance to build capabilities and coordination in all phases of emergency management to protect the safety of animals during disasters. CVET and CARES work together to identify and manage animal resources for disaster response operations.

California Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps (CAVMRC)

CAVMRC, working under the direction of the California Veterinary Medical Association, provides veterinary care and expertise during disaster response operations. CVET and CAVMRC work together to develop standardized veterinary treatment protocols and collectively coordinate veterinary personnel for deployment operations.

California Animal Welfare Association (CalAnimals)

CalAnimals represents and supports California's animal care and control agencies, SPCAs, humane societies, and other animal welfare organizations, and serves as a point of contact for animal services support during disaster response operations.

Northern California Association of Equine Practitioners (NCAEP)

NCAEP is a partner in providing veterinary care to horses affected by disasters in Northern California. CVET and NCAEP have a memorandum of agreement (MOA) and have built joint relationships with local hospitals.
